- I was on my last evening shift when Jodie came out with her "Great Revelation" to Owen, and I didn't get home until well after midnight. Jodie and Owen were in bed and I didn't see them that evening or the next morning as my habit was to sleep until after nine, by which time Owen had left for his Estate Agents' office and Jodie was out somewhere too. The first inkling I got of anything amiss was a text from my son asking me to meet him at lunchtime in town, near his offices. It wasn't really convenient, I had a mountain of washing and ironing to do now that Jodie was home and I tried to ring Owen to find out what it was about. But he didn't pick up and I assumed that he was with a client.
- So I drove into town and found a bench in the little park opposite his office and I sat and watched people going about their business: chatting with friends or walking their dogs or pushing buggies with sleeping (or in one case, screaming) babies. Just after twelve-thirty Owen joined me on the bench, pecking my cheek before he sat down.
